ANYPLACE BUT HERE
Hi, Houston! Thanks for having me over to visit. I love travelling (even if it’s only virtually).
I may be on my third passport but I love my hometown of Winnipeg. I root for the Goldeyes (baseball), Jets (hockey) and Blue Bombers (football) in that order. I love the spring, summer, fall and even the winter. But, honestly, the last two winters have been really tough. Longer than normal, colder than normal, and 50% more snow than normal. And you know who has to shovel that white s…tuff? Me! It wears a girl down.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have experienced some tropical winter getaways – although not in recent years – and in an effort to relive my frostbite-free glory days, I decided to relive them in book form. Thus my Resort Romances series was born. The first, PUERTO VALLARTA SUNSETS, is based on a glorious week in Mexico where the sun was warm and the tequila flowed like water. My second Resort Romance CUBAN MOON, is a combination of trips to Varadero and Camaguay, Cuba. It is out this month exclusively on Amazon. Here’s a quick peek:
Lisa Kleyson, representing the bride, didn’t intend to hook up with anybody while on her first Caribbean vacation ever, but when she lays eyes on the groom’s brother, her best laid plans go out the window. She knows she’s not doctor’s wife material … but he’s not on duty.
Dr. Hank Anderson, representing the groom, will do his duty to his brother but he’d much rather be spending time with the music teacher who’s caught his eye. It’s nice to be the one doing the chasing instead of fending off women who want to take advantage of his position.
Hank’s pursuit is booby-trapped with a stalking maid-of-honor, a Gilligan-worthy boat tour and bad crab cakes but he is determined to catch Lisa and convince her to start a romance under the Cuban moon.

Relatedly, have you ever noticed how there is no such thing as winter in TV-land? If the show is set in Los Angeles, as so many of them are, the only way you can tell an episode is set in December is by the Christmas decorations hanging from the palm trees lining the streets. If you have an east coast show set in Washington, DC or New York City, the characters will wear jackets and scarves and shiver while standing next to a lonely three-inch snowdrift on the sidewalk.
With rough winters like that, it’s no surprise that if I can’t be in the tropics, I’ll settle for Hollywood. In fact, I love it so much that I set my other series – Hollywood to Olympus – there. I created a drama called Olympus, a fictional Game of Thrones/Spartacus/Hercules mash-up hit cable show. (In a freaky-but-true coincidence, there is going to be an actual series called Olympus coming to television in 2015. It probably won’t be as much fun as my series but I’m definitely going to check it out.)
My first book, SCREEN IDOL, came out in February of this year and introduced the cast of Olympus, and concentrated on Chris Peck, the actor who plays Zeus, and a fan-appreciation contest winner named Sydney Richardson. My new release DRAMA QUEEN takes place just after SCREEN IDOL and details the romance of Layla Andrews, who plays Hera, and Russ Vukovick, the show’s fight co-ordinator.
Layla Andrews isn’t really a bitch – she just plays one on television. For the last eighteen months, she’s acted like one in real life too while she was forced to serve probation for something she didn’t do. Now the Queen of Olympus has done her time and she’s ready to start living again … but she’s forgotten how.
Russ Vukovick, the show’s fight coordinator, had been attracted to Layla since the first time he saw her. Recently he’s caught glimpses of a new side of her – one that makes her irresistible. But as he gets closer to her, he also sees more of what she hides beneath the mask she wears.
As Layla and Russ try to navigate their new relationship, families, danger, and secrets work against them at every turn. Can the find a true happily-ever-after when they are surrounded by lies?
