blurbCopilot of the Blood Hunter, Daisy is a newly-turned vampire, and she’s hungry. Really hungry and it’s interfering with her plans for revenge. A Kingdom of Chalvaren Romance
Paula Millhouse
Publisher: Boroughs Publishing

blurbTHE DRAGONSTONE HAS RETURNED
With the love of Kort, Chalvaren’s warrior-prince heir, Mia Ansgar will seize her birthright and become the great dragon-riding wizardess prophesied to free that elven kingdom from her embittered sorceress kin.

TO ASCEND TRIUMPHANT
Twenty-five years ago, Theo Ansgar abandoned the Kingdom of Chalvaren for a hiding place on another world. Some called him traitor. Some, thief. Now his fully grown daughter Mia must return to the land of her birth…and their war.

It was the elf prince Kort Elias who brought her back. Theirs was an instant connection, an inescapable union of body, soul and sorcery, reminding Mia of what she truly is, and what she must become. There is also Magnus, destined to be more potent than any wyrm Chalvaren has ever seen, a three-day-old dragonlet Mia must nurture and then ride. And then there is the Dragonstone, an artifact of power nonpareil. Joined, they can tip the scales of battle against the wraith-possessed forces of darkness, of Mia’s own embittered kin. Redemption will be offered, the protected will become the protector, and an ancient prophecy will come to fruition, but only righteous love can conquer all.

excerpt

“You said we could unite our auras and free the Dragonstone from my father’s protections…?”

Kort’s smile broadened. “That amethyst is the largest chunk of dragon ore ever known to the elves of Chalvaren. The legend around it, if you go in for that sort of thing, is that dragons themselves tore it from the Drahkos Mountains.”

It was luminescent, the most beautiful jewel Mia had ever seen. She blinked, her mother’s words pouring through her mind. Your One True Love… If she was willing to risk being forever alone.

Kort whispered close in her ear, “It’s a conduit for energy of all kinds, Mia. Plus it has a special attunement to…” He eyed her meaningfully. “The physical.”

She gulped. “So…? How, exactly…? I mean…” She searched Kort’s eyes and smoothed her other hand down the skirt of her purple dress to dry her palm. “What are you proposing we do to liberate the thing?”

Kort pulled her into a kiss.

Mia let him.

Their magic auras mingled, and she nearly lost her breath. She trembled in his arms and arched her chest into his. Kort held her tight, his hands drifting down her back. She let the warmth of his body flush through her, and the spark of desire she’d felt earlier when they melded their auras to cast the spell over Magnus burst into full flame. His touch destroyed her with need, and she pressed closer, mindless, reveling in the first kiss she’d ever experienced.

He plundered her mouth with his tongue, and Mia reveled in his mastery. When Kort broke away, she arched her neck so he could kiss her neck and he trailed hot moist kisses up to the crest of one pointed ear.

“Let me love you, Mia. You don’t belong here. You belong with me. Let’s use the power of our auras at the height of ecstasy to release the Dragonstone and go home.”

At the height of ecstasy? Was he saying they would make love?

Whatever this magic was—whatever its intent and whatever its danger—Mia wanted more. All of this had been foretold by her parents. Magnus had led Kort to find her.

She was ready to see where he led.

Sara, a hidden Hybrid disguised as a BioGen Monitor, will find an enslaved Justin being experimented on. She will help him gain his freedom and in the process will gain her own. Trust will grow between them and from that trust will blossom a love which will give them the power to escape BioGen.

Long Book Description:

The ruling hiarchy of the known world, BioGen, continues to manipulate the genetics of the human race to try and prevent the extinction of mind-kind. In their meddling to control life, BioGen combines human DNA with alien. Success is achieved and unique females are created and industrially born. The baby girls are surprising in their beauty and abilities, but BioGen, in their need to control and conquer, force the delicate females away from their caregivers. Their only goal is to hone the powerful gifts of the maturing teenagers. In the end, however, they perish one by one because of the uncaring ways of their handlers until there is only one extraordinary woman remaining.

Born part human and part Phoenix, Sara has hidden among the enemy since she was created. Disguised in the appearance of a Nul working for BioGen, she searches for the truth about her creation and the sisters she lost during childhood. During her duties she is assigned to guard and observe scientific experimentation on a man who she discovers is no other than one of the Wilder males.

Captured as a young man while searching for his brother, Justin is forced into service to be one of the highly coveted Companions. Refusing to be broken and used by the Gen female population he is tortured and then used for genetic research. Under the Headquarter’s control his very sanity and memory is almost destroyed. Ultimately BioGen will destroy him if he can’t find a way to escape back to The Wilds and his family. The fates bring him a breath-taking woman who is the key to both his freedom and hers.

Thrown together in hopeless circumstances, the fated lovers are initially enemies. However, Sara is instantly drawn to Justin and she has no choice but to free him from BioGen’s grasp. At first Justin sees her as nothing more than his way to escape but it doesn’t take long for him to see the mysterious beauty under the surface of her disguise. Together they find a way to escape from the enemy’s Headquarters.

During their run for freedom they will find the most unlikely allies in both Daman, a high class Companion, and Defiance, an underground group of escaped males who just may have their own agenda. Joining the group of criminals is a dangerous consideration, however, Justin and Sara must team up with Daman, who is now leader of Defiance, if they have any hope of reaching The Wilds. In the end there is no choice as BioGen’s assembling army begins an all out attack on Justin’s family and the Rogues.

In the search for answers and freedom, Sara and Justin’s growing trust and dedication to each other will become a flame of passion and love. They will discover the intense love they have for each other makes them stronger than all of the uncertainties and dangers in their life. Sara’s gentle caring will allow Justin to trust again and recover his memories. In return, his belief in her will allow Sara to harness her Phoenix abilities. Only the two of them have the true power to save Justin’s family and the Rogues who call The Wilds home.

In one great clash of wills at the edge of civilization a great battle will be waged between BioGen’s Nul army, the Rogues, and Defiance. In the midst of the conflict and chaos will be two incredible lovers who will do anything to save those they care for. Justin will rejoin his family and give Sara the strength to harness the fiery ability of her Phoenix side in the final showdown. In the end, only the power of love will prevail and ultimately set everyone free.

excerpt

Home.  Justin never thought to ever make it back to the place he loved, back to the people who he loved.  It was too much to hope for, and although he wanted to completely believe in what Daman was offering him, he couldn’t.  Suspicion still circled in his mind from what he had been through over the past five years.  Aggression filled him and when Daman made to walk past him in an elegant exit Justin snatched out and grabbed him by the jacket again.

In a growl he bit out,  “If you think to entrap me in any way with this I’ll escape and you’ll pay.”

In a smooth movement Daman turned and stared him down with death in his eyes and growled back,  “I realize you’ve had it rough Justin, but so have the rest of us.  If I could, I’d make a run myself but too many people are depending on me.  My choice is to stay, for now.  Use the discs, don’t use them, I don’t give a fuck.  Just remember I tried to help you out.  If you’re with the plan, I’ll be back as soon as the sun sets, but well before curfew, to pick you up.  Look for my black Puma at curb side. Eight ‘o’clock should suffice.  Now, if you would be so kind to get your hands off me.”

When Justin didn’t initially let go Daman grabbed his shirt as if to throw him off, but both men froze when a dagger flew by and imbedded in the table next to Daman’s leg.  With a groan Justin carefully let go of Daman’s jacket just as he did the same with his shirt.  Yes, the worst thing had happened to him.  Sara had revealed herself to Daman, even if it was in the act of trying to protect him.  He should have known better than to leave her alone without letting her know what was up, but he just couldn’t wake her sweet sleeping form at the time.  She had needed her rest.  Turning to face her he knew she still needed some serious sleep.

His heart plummeted when he saw her true form revealed to Daman and his pure viciousness to protect her exploded.  Even when he quickly moved to block Daman’s view of her he couldn’t help but be proud of her.  With as many injuries as she had sustained for him, and her body still healing, she was his avenging angel.  Her own protective fury emanated from her along with the heat he couldn’t identify.  Still, he had to protect her because it was obvious she still didn’t have the strength to attempt to hide her true form.

Spinning around to block Daman’s view, he couldn’t miss the man’s shocked expression of what he was seeing.  Justin knew he would be taking in Sara’s brilliant auburn hair and her mysterious aquamarine eyes, and her skin.  Such soft skin that brushed up against his when she dove around him to stand in front to be the protector.  He tried to grab her to pull her back but she slipped from his grasp with such ease.  He hated the fact that not only was her true form revealed, so were her long sensual legs since all she had on was his over-sized t-shirt.

Closing his eyes he groaned again.  By the Fates, he loved the woman but she was going to be the one to kill him just from the stress of trying to protect her.  The realization of what he had just admitted to himself left him shaky, but he didn’t have time to dwell on it.  Daman was approaching, albeit carefully, and Justin didn’t want him anywhere near Sara.  Again he tried to grab Sara to place her behind him but she refused standing her ground with her remaining dagger in hand. He wondered if she was stronger than he thought and was choosing to show her true form.  It was revealed in the next instant when she transformed to her Nul appearance, a reflex of protection he was certain.

Shining auburn hair became dark, glowing skin became pale, and eyes that glanced back at him darkened to a deep chocolate tone.  She glanced at him for just a moment with concern in her eyes before she turned back to Daman.  With a quick spin of the dagger in her hand she had the man freezing in place.  Instead of Daman taking an aggressive stance he started laughing, his deep voice echoing throughout the room.

Sara stalked closer to the Companion and Justin was right on her like a shadow.  Before she reached him Justin encircled her with his arms holding her against him.  He could literally feel the heat and energy running through her when she hissed,  “I know who you are.  You work with Defiance and you’re a Companion.  I’ve heard stories about you.  You’re dangerous, but I assure you, I’m more dangerous, as you have seen by what I really am, so don’t ever touch Justin again.”

Justin was relieved to see that Daman was taking Sara seriously but hated the fact she had revealed herself to make a point.  Still, Daman was Daman, and with a play-boy smile he countered,  “I bow to your beauty, my lady.  I’m glad to see that not all of the Hybrids were destroyed.  Yes, I see you’re shocked, but as you said, I am Defiance, so have access to things no one else has.  Including files which BioGen thinks they can keep protected with their security measures.  I wonder…have you told Justin about everything you are and what you can do?”

Fury filled Justin but he held his position holding on to Sara.  He could feel her body shaking, whether it was from adrenaline or weakness he didn’t know, but he wasn’t going to let her get into a battle with Daman for him or anything else.  She was too important to him.  Perhaps Daman picked up on that fact because he held up his hands and backed away from the pair before heading for the exit door.

Before he departed he threw over his shoulder, “Good luck, Justin.  You’re going to need it.  If you’re with the program of using the Identity and Transport Discs, I’ll see you tonight.  The moment I pull up get your ass out there or I’m gone.  I won’t be making the offer again.  And by the way, be careful with that girl.  There’s more to her than meets the eye.”

Right before the door closed Sara let out a growl and let loose with her last dagger.  End over end it flipped through the air with a speed that Justin could barely keep track of.  Daman barely made it out the door before the deadly blade imbedded in the hard wood.

Christine Murphy started her writing career at a young age even before she was putting words to paper.  Living in Image1the Midwest left her with plenty of time to read and develop her creative mind.  Her first short story was written in grade school and was in a fantasy-type style.  Later she took an online course in writing and created another story based on the adventures of a Native-American youth searching for her purpose in life and filled with lots of symbology.

Science-fiction fantasy was her main reading preference but quickly shifted to romance.  In the beginning she preferred Contemporary Romance but that didn’t last long when she discovered Christine Feehan and JR Ward.  Paranormal Romance had infected her and she read as much of it as her voracious mind could adsorb.

Eventually Christine joined the work force, and although she continued to read, she didn’t pursue her need to create her own worlds other than in her head.  Her imagination continued but reality kept her busy including a successful medical based career in the military.  Working as a clinical laboratory scientist she was stationed in several locations in the United States and in numerous areas of the world including England, Italy, Germany, Africa, and the Middle East.  Finally her career brought her to a small town outside the Tampa Bay area in Florida.  This is where she finally realized time is too short to put off those enjoyments in life especially when her husband was struck with leukemia.  He successfully recovered but it made her decide she wanted to pursue writing which seemed to be put off her whole life.

Within two years she had completed an entire series – The Sphinx Warriors Series, and started the first book of The Wild Clan Sagas.  Currently she continues to write from her Florida home while looking out her back lanai to a small pond where the wild-life gathers and the flowers bloom in exotic pinks and purples. This is her place of peace and freedom she has searched for all her life and where her husband and crazy African Gray Parrot, Raider, hang out with her.  It’s the place where her creativity runs wild while she spins tales of adventure and passion. She captures the unique characters, civilizations, conflict, passion, and love in her writing from the fantasies which still spin in her head.  She captures the strong, spirited, and powerfully attracted characters and all of their adventures and share it with others who are searching for that very thing to make their lives more exciting.

If she accomplishes nothing else in life, she hopes to share the romantically magical worlds and the lovers she sees with all of the passionate readers out there.  Her next projects are continuing to work on her Wild Clan Sagas and her Midnight Riders Series as she partners with KnightFall Publishing and CK Productions.

Talk dirty to me, scifi

In my misspent youth, I was a voracious reader and among the many genres I tried and devoured was science fiction. This was hardcore scifi where no fictional spaceship was allowed to blast off in a story, and no warp-travelling wormhole was allowed to send you hurtling across the galaxy, unless the author could explain it somehow with physics and maths.

Hard science fiction. So hard your brain melted a bit reading them.

Now? I’d rather my stories melt panties. Defiler is a part of the Preyfinder series and the only hard in this scifi are the men. It’s a dirty, depraved story world but with a plot that will make you bite your nails and scream a little as the ending rolls toward you. I’ve even thrown in lashings of fantasy because it made the story far more FUN. Fun is what I need in my stories, along with the sex. This is an erotic tale and though some of the romantic/ erotic scifi out there is light on plot, that’s not this book. If I can’t make you wonder what in all the seven realms of alien hell is about to happen in this one, I’ve not done my job.

Imagine a mash-up of Serenity or Star Wars along with some epic fantasy stirred in with a few orgies from Game of Thrones and you have Defiler.

Since I do like dubious consent in my stories, you’ll find that a part of the sexuality, but there’s never any doubt that Talia is having the time of her life. Many women have rape fantasies (one of the commonest sexual fantasies of women) and erotic reads like these are as safe, sane, and consensual a way to indulge those fantasies as anyone can get. Not exactly bodice ripper in space, but that is the general background theme in the Preyfinder stories.

Talia is no pushover, though she has a lust for big, alien men with sexual equipment to die for, she’s also a strong, brave, and smart forensic pathologist. A man tangles with her at the risk of having his spleen removed with a swish of her katana. Read Defiler and find out how Brask and Dassenze manage to dodge her sword and drag her into bed with them.

blurbOur Earth is on the edge of destruction, our cities are pocked with missile craters, and beneath the surface the alien factory queen lurks.

Four women of power may be our saviors. The last is Talia. Gifted by earth magic with a mastery of edged weapons, she’s a katana-wielding, geek chick with a loathing of alpha men. Although mating enhances magic, she knows bonding with aliens must surely be wrong. Besides, her destined bond mate, Brask, is an Igrakk warrior of the caveman persuasion. One dominant male is bad enough. Dassenze, the alien man-god in the flesh, also desires her and no isn’t a word he appreciates.

As they near their target, Talia’s man problems become the lesser of many evils, for the factory queen awaits them with her nerve chewers and her drills. The price for being avenging, kickass heroines could be a messy death.

Warning: Dominance and submission themes, hot aliens, and violence. Mild horror too if you’re squeamish.

excerpt

Talia approached the door, chair in hand, feeling like a lion tamer, and wedged the chair against the door knob. It worked in the movies.

“Go away! I’ll come and see you after I’m done. To talk about whatever it is you want to talk about.”

“If you’re there, on the other side, you can let me in.”

He was going to wait for her to let him in? Ho hum and yawn.

“No, I cannot. Asshole.” She said that to herself as she backed away, grinning. There was a thrill to calling Brask bad names, akin to poking a monkey with a stick. A big, slightly-annoyed monkey.

His sigh sounded exasperated. “Do you have any idea how good my hearing is? Or whatever this other sense is. I can tell when you’re aroused.”

She snorted. “Tough.”

His next move was to smash his fist through the door, sending splinters flying, then he shoved aside the chair and opened the door from the inside.

“Damn,” she muttered. “Impressive.”

Running on ceilings was impressive too but this was a whole other realm – a man who would smash down a door to get to her.

Scary as hell.

Keeping her expression defiant was difficult. She found herself cycling between a smirk and an oh-shit-what-have-I-done expression. Fear had some plusses. Excitement for one. He wouldn’t hurt her and she wasn’t going to hurt him, but her heart was pounding away like it wasn’t sure.

Now she had an annoyed Brask on her side of the door. He kicked it farther open and took a step inside as the handle hit the wall and the door swung back in a foot.

“I see you’re ready for me. Nice underwear.”

Breathless, she gathered her reply. “I wasn’t expecting guests. Maybe you should leave?”

“I only just arrived. But if you insist.” But then he stepped closer, until she had to tilt her head back farther to keep the encounter eye-to-eye. Between the width of his shoulders, general body bulk, and the way his blond spiky hair seemed ready to brush the ceiling, he was making her feel like a small female snack.

Never look away from a predator, right? On shuffling back a step, she found the coffee table pressing at her bare legs.

Insolently and probably stupidly, she angled a brow. “Leaving means going in the other direction.”

“It does?”

“Yes.”

He crowded her some more until only inches separated them and she could feel his body heat. She didn’t dare shut her eyes. She was faster than him, but that wasn’t everything. Not at all. But he didn’t lunge at her, instead he very deliberately reached out and around her, with both hands, and took a grip of the back of her hair. Then he screwed both hands in and twisted, thoroughly trapping her.

Something stopped her resisting. Probably raw unadulterated lust. She licked her lips, waiting. When he remained silent, she couldn’t resist asking a question.

“Now what are you going to do? My hairstyle?”

blurbJust one spell will change their fates…

Cordelia is a pawn of House Dorchada—a notorious noble family comprised of thieves, assassins and dark wizards. Desperate to avoid their poisonous politics, Cordelia plotted her escape for years, but her carefully laid plans are jeopardized when her father commands her to marry an aged lord of Frostever.

With only a few short months left before her wedding, Cordelia’s salvation hinges on creating a Sephra’s Tear—a forbidden amulet that causes overwhelming lust in its victim. A black market buyer promises a life-changing amount of coin as payment for the Tear, but being caught creating it carries a death sentence.

Two wizards are needed to produce the passion to fuel the erotic spell, so Cordelia recruits the aid of peasant wizard Nathaniel Ravenwood. Nathaniel has long denied his desire for the beautiful Cordelia. As a noblewoman and a Dorchada she is as dangerous to Nathaniel as a viper, but the fortune she offers is a temptation he can’t refuse.

Dealing in dark magic comes with a price, and Cordelia and Nathaniel risk losing their freedom—and their hearts. Their fates depend on the one spell that will free them, or destroy them.

excerpt

“Have you made your decision?” she blurted.
“I have. I see you have quite a few books on Majera.”
Cordelia frowned at the change in subject. “And here I thought I’d done a good job of hiding them. I don’t want to appear too interested, lest they look for us there.”
“What will you do there? They are strict about punishing wizards who cast illegal spells.”
“The Tear will be my first and last illegal spell. I imagine we’ll do much the same that we do here—sell potions and robes.”
“You won’t live like this if you do.” Nathaniel waved a hand at their opulent surroundings.
“All this is a gilded cage. I’d rather starve as a wizard than live comfortably as a bored lady of the house.”
He shook his head. “I doubt you’ve ever gone hungry.”
“Would you give up your magic and live a life where you’re expected to only concern yourself with the goings on in the kitchen and the quality of the linens? Oh, and be expected to pleasure a stranger forty years your senior whenever he wishes, for the express purpose of providing him with mageblooded children? Children who will undoubtedly be sold one day to seal some political deal, just as you were?”
“I’m sure it’s not so terrible.” His expression was skeptical, and she shook her head.
“Spoken like a man. Most noblewomen are little more than broodmares in a luxurious stable. I want more than that.” Cordelia pushed the thoughts away, determined not to dwell further on Lord Eben. Nathaniel studied her with a thoughtful expression, and she was distracted by how tall he was—even taller than her brother Alexander, who had loomed over her like an ill-tempered mountain since they were children.
“Are you going to help me create the Tear?” she asked.
“Yes, I am.”
She breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you.”
“Do not thank me, my lady. My poverty has overwhelmed my better sense, otherwise I wouldn’t agree to this. But I have done some research these past few days, reading about similar lust spells, and as I understand it the Sephra’s Tear is quite unique. We can’t approach this like any other simple spell or potion.”
Cordelia’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Oh? Why not?”
Taking her hands in his, he drew her over to the divan. Nathaniel ran his thumbs across her knuckles and she shivered at his touch. “A Sephra’s Tear is more than just a lust spell. That is part of what makes it difficult to cast. Any pair of wizards can manage the basic…physical requirements of a lust spell, but a Tear needs the intense pleasure that results from truly understanding your partner’s needs. It requires intimate knowledge. Not just of how to please each other, but how to prolong the experience enough to create a potent Tear.” Nathaniel paused, as though searching for the right words to explain before continuing. “If you’ll forgive the example, it is the difference between having a lover and visiting a whore.”
“I see.” Cordelia licked her lips, her mouth suddenly dry. “I hadn’t considered that.” She had never let anyone know her so intimately—Cordelia’s previous lovers had only seen the polite facade of the Lady Dorchada. She had never trusted any lover enough to be completely honest with them.
“Are you certain you still wish to do this?”

excerpt

“I thought I might choke and die on your blood, but because I’ve already ingested some I would come back to life… like you.” She looked up at, her eyes wide with the panic that had gripped her before looking down at her feet again and taking a deep breath. She hated feeling vulnerable in front of him like this. But most importantly she hated not having all the answers like he seemingly did.

“The process is a little more complicated than that, but you would be temporarily held in a state between beings until I decided to claim you.”

“And would you have?” She looked up, her voice quiet as she spoke. There was an underlying fear in her question. A part of her was repulsed by the idea and yet the rest of her longed to know he would have her. She needed to know he would keep her even if she weren’t the feisty human woman he claimed he was so intrigued by. When had she decided that his opinion of her was that important? When had she decided at all to allow a man to determine her fate?

Nero looked back at her unflinchingly as he moved closer to her, reaching out and tracing her lips gently before bringing his hand up along her jaw toward her ear. His fingers toyed with the hair tucked behind her ear before he shook his head at her.

“I would have to, I’m afraid to admit.”

She stared back at him in surprise, unsure of what she was supposed to say. She was far too distracted by his lingering fingers and how they gently caressed her skin, moving along it and forcing it to blossom into gooseflesh.

Bringing herself back to the moment she swallowed hard, forcing some kind of sound from her lungs, “why?”

“Because you have enraptured me in the most illogical way. Never before has a human woman been able to hold my attention for so long. Something about you calls to me like a familiar lullaby I once knew.” He paused, seeming to gather his thoughts. “My life will last forever but trifling with a mortal can feel like an eternity in hell. Humans by nature are far too slow, uncultured, undomesticated and someone my age doesn’t have the time to break something like that. But then I met you… You, curious you, who fights back, who questions me, who doesn’t want me in the way all women who have ever looked at me have. I don’t understand it, but I want to and worst of all I want you in a way I have never wanted anyone. I don’t need others, but I need you. I feel myself longing for it and whether it would be against your will or not I would change you because I cannot live without you.”

“One day you will have to.” She whispered quietly, staring at him with a bewilderment he had grown so accustomed to.

“Not today.” He whispered back, his voice much lower than hers as he leaned in and caught her lips with his. It was a bruising kiss that she felt all the way down into her toes. It ached in a way that touched her heart and soul. She felt it flow through all her veins and consume her like a fire.

Genre: Gay Werewolf, M/M PNR

Publisher: ARe Books

Date of Publication: July 1, 2015

ISBN: 9781943576142

Word Count: 50,000

Cover Artist: Erin Dameron Hill

blurbOut of desperation and danger comes love. What a rush!

Strapped for cash, Dante Kinnaird agrees to sell a sample of his werewolf DNA to the owner of a security company intent on breeding fierce and fearsome dogs. Dr. Crios Mantzaris Karras III, a brilliant but arrogant scientist, creates the serum and gets on Dante’s last nerve. Dante can’t wait to cash his check and get away from this man.

Crios’s ego takes more than a beating when his hybrid were-dogs become uncontrollable and terrorize the countryside. Dante knows he must make things right, and puts aside his feelings for Crios as they team up to stop these bloodthirsty monsters.
In the heat of battle, he never expected those feelings to change.
excerptTwo hours later, Dante sat strapped in the chair as Crios ran his fingers over his bare arm, seeking out a vein so he could draw blood. The other man didn’t hesitate before thrusting the needle straight into his inner elbow. Dante barely felt the needle dipping into his skin. To him, being prodded was nothing.
Crios examined the dark crimson liquid that filled the syringe, his eyes gleaming. “Interesting.”
“What’s interesting?” Blood was blood, after all.
Crios sighed as if dealing with the questions of the common man was oh-so-exhausting. “Werewolf blood looks the same as human blood.”
A grin covered his face before he could stop it. “Did you think that werewolves bleed blue or something?”
“Don’t be ridiculous. Blue blood? Whoever heard of such a thing? This is reality, not a comic book.” Miffed, Crios shook his head. “I just wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve never worked with werewolves before, so for all I knew your blood could have had a different consistency and color than a human’s.”
“I take that to mean you haven’t been gene mashing werewolves and animals for long?”
Crios picked up the vial of blood and transplanted it into a metal vat beside him. “No, I haven’t. I didn’t even know that werewolves existed until Norm shared the truth with me. And even then, I was skeptical until I did the research myself.”
“I wonder how Norman discovered werewolves.” He reminded himself to ask Norman when he returned from the restroom. Werewolves were a pretty well-kept secret, and for a good reason. If the human population discovered their existence, then their kind would never be left alone.
Pulling a white cotton ball from his pocket, Crios rolled it between his thin fingers. “Norm told me that he saw a werewolf transform when he was walking home from a bar. After that, he couldn’t get thoughts of werewolves out of his mind. He dug around and found out all about them.”
Well, it looked like Dante hadn’t needed to wait until Norman returned from the restroom to question the man after all. “The werewolf who was seen should have been more careful. Most of my kind tries not to transform in the presence of humans. It’ll put us in danger.”
“Accidents happen, I guess.” Crios shrugged. “Open.”
“What?”
“Open your mouth.” Crios rolled his eyes. “I have to do a swab.”
“Oh.” He blinked in surprise before opening his mouth wide. Maybe he was being ridiculous, but he could only pray that his breath didn’t stink.
The man ran the cotton swab along his cheek and then opened a plastic bag and put it inside. As Crios laid the bag next to the blood sample, Dante couldn’t help but feel mounting curiosity in regards to this brilliant but socially inept person.
“Have you always liked science?” He noted how natural Crios appeared floating around in his lab coat.
“Science isn’t something I like as much as it is something that is in my blood.” Crios pushed the glasses further up his nose. “I come from a family of scientists. My mother and grandfather were brilliant chemists. I, however, chose to specialize in a few different scientific fields. I figured that I’m smart enough to work in several different scientific areas at once.”
I love how he had to add a little self-plug in there…”You just made it sound as though you don’t like science.”
“Like I said, science runs in my blood. That’s all there is to it. It’s not a matter of me liking or disliking it.”
“But what’s the point spending your life doing something you hate?” He’d rather spend his life trying his best at something he enjoyed even if he was crappy at it. “It sounds like you’re setting yourself up for years of pain and misery. I don’t know why you’d do that.”
“I don’t hate science. I just don’t particularly like it.” Crios stopped talking as his face became the color of a freshly plucked plum. “Why on earth am I talking to you about this? I shouldn’t have to defend my life choices to a perfect stranger.”
“Sorry.”
Crios huffed and pulled another cotton ball from his pocket. “This is why I hate dealing with people. It’s always so exhausting.”
Other people were exhausting? Dante had once had to run fifty miles in one go, and that had tired him out less than this conversation. “Sorry I’m such a trial.”
In response to his jab, Crios said nothing. Zilch. Nada. The guy probably hadn’t even noticed his tone.
“Do you have any family?” He wanted to know how Crios had ended up so much like, well, Crios.
“They’re all dead.” Not even a smidgeon of emotion crept into Crios’s crisp voice. Dante had heard someone become more emotional about a deceased goldfish.
Still Dante’s stomach twisted. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. My parents were non-existent in my life even when they were alive.” Once again, Crios delivered the earth shattering information with emotional detachment. It was strange that the man blew up over the eggs on his sandwiches, but spoke without remorse about his own dead family.
“Still, you have to miss them.” It would be impossible for him not to.
“No, I really don’t.”
The man had to miss them a little. “Not at all? Oh, come on.”
Annoyance flickered in Crios’s steely eyes. “No, I don’t. Not at all. Not even in the slightest bit.”
The words made Dante fall silent.
“Open,” Crios snapped, prodding his lips with a cotton ball.
At once, he opened his mouth.

blurbForget the foreplay. For the truly committed, it’s all bite.

Willow has loved Devon and Case for as long as she can remember, but as lion shifters they will eventually find their mates. When she allows herself to be with her two lions after a drunken party, she fears she’s ruined a lifelong friendship and flees before morning.

Devon and Case have been inseparable since they could walk, but they can’t tell anyone that they are mates. The pride of shifters they belong to won’t accept a same-sex mating. There’s no way they’ll accept their love for Willow?

When a shocking revelation brings Willow’s world crashing down, she has no choice but to tell Devon and Case how she feels. Will they be able to accept what fate has thrown at them? Do they want to?

Available at ARe

excerptCase let go of Willow’s shoulder and poured them all another shot. He wanted to get out of here, wanted to be alone with his mate and the female he cared about more than anything else in the world. He stared at Willow, took in her long brown hair that curled at the ends, the color of her amber eyes, and her innocent expression. She was so damn pretty, but she didn’t think she was, didn’t see herself as anything more than chubby and ugly no matter how many times they told her the opposite. Willow was smart, quiet, and timid, and so unlike the other lionesses in their pride, but she was theirs, had been part of their lives for as long as they could remember.

He loved her more than just as a friend, and he’d spoken about those feelings with Devon. It hadn’t been a surprise when his mate had said the same thing. But it wasn’t smart or fair to be with her as anything more than friends. She’d find a mate one day, and if they were physical with her, a lot of emotions would get sticky in the mix. It was better if they kept things platonic even if it was hard as hell.

He watched his mate throw back the shot, took in the strong six-foot-six height of his mate, the long black hair that fell over his forehead, and the light green eyes. His mate was a gorgeous bastard, but it pained him to keep their connection from others. He wanted to shout it loud and proud, but it wasn’t safe or smart to do so, not until everyone was more accepting of two males mating. As it was he didn’t know what would happen to them, or how they would be treated if they came out now.

Case had always liked males, had always jerked off to thinking of their hard bodies, long cocks. But he loved women too, loved the soft curves, soft voices. He couldn’t lie and say he hadn’t thought about being with another male throughout his life, about how muscle against muscle would feel, but they had only been thoughts, up until he’d been seventeen and seen Devon as his mate. He just wanted to let go, be who and what he wanted to be, and not worry how it would affect the pride, or who would care. But that wasn’t reality. What he knew for damn sure was he wanted to fucking take Devon and Willow, even if she wasn’t his mate by bond, hard and fast, get lost in them, and fuck up anyone who told him it was wrong.

His thoughts were interrupted when Willow tossed back the shot. She was not acting like her reserved self right now, but she was drunk. He’d only ever seen her like this on a couple other occasions, and it always made her more outgoing, less hidden.

She leaned in close so only he could hear her say, “Case, I think maybe I had way too much to drink.” She leaned against him and he held her close, looking over her head at Devon. His mate looked worried.

“Let’s get you home, sweetheart.

“No, my parents will kill me. Can I stay at your place?” She pulled back. “My parents won’t care. They loved you too, and I know your parents are gone for the weekend.”

He smiled and pushed a stray piece of hair off her forehead. “Yeah, sweetheart. I wouldn’t want you to be alone anyway.”

He led them out of the party, Devon behind, his anger still tangible. Case wanted to comfort Devon, because even if he was enraged, someone wanted to take advantage of their Willow. Now was not the time.
