TO ASCEND TRIUMPHANT
Twenty-five years ago, Theo Ansgar abandoned the Kingdom of Chalvaren for a hiding place on another world. Some called him traitor. Some, thief. Now his fully grown daughter Mia must return to the land of her birth…and their war.

It was the elf prince Kort Elias who brought her back. Theirs was an instant connection, an inescapable union of body, soul and sorcery, reminding Mia of what she truly is, and what she must become. There is also Magnus, destined to be more potent than any wyrm Chalvaren has ever seen, a three-day-old dragonlet Mia must nurture and then ride. And then there is the Dragonstone, an artifact of power nonpareil. Joined, they can tip the scales of battle against the wraith-possessed forces of darkness, of Mia’s own embittered kin. excerpt

“You said we could unite our auras and free the Dragonstone from my father’s protections…?”

Kort’s smile broadened. “That amethyst is the largest chunk of dragon ore ever known to the elves of Chalvaren. The legend around it, if you go in for that sort of thing, is that dragons themselves tore it from the Drahkos Mountains.”

It was luminescent, the most beautiful jewel Mia had ever seen. She blinked, her mother’s words pouring through her mind. Your One True Love… If she was willing to risk being forever alone.

Kort whispered close in her ear, “It’s a conduit for energy of all kinds, Mia. Plus it has a special attunement to…” He eyed her meaningfully. “The physical.”

She gulped. “So…? How, exactly…? I mean…” She searched Kort’s eyes and smoothed her other hand down the skirt of her purple dress to dry her palm. “What are you proposing we do to liberate the thing?”

Kort pulled her into a kiss.

Mia let him.

Their magic auras mingled, and she nearly lost her breath. She trembled in his arms and arched her chest into his. Kort held her tight, his hands drifting down her back. She let the warmth of his body flush through her, and the spark of desire she’d felt earlier when they melded their auras to cast the spell over Magnus burst into full flame. His touch destroyed her with need, and she pressed closer, mindless, reveling in the first kiss she’d ever experienced.

He plundered her mouth with his tongue, and Mia reveled in his mastery. When Kort broke away, she arched her neck so he could kiss her neck and he trailed hot moist kisses up to the crest of one pointed ear.

“Let me love you, Mia. You don’t belong here. You belong with me. Let’s use the power of our auras at the height of ecstasy to release the Dragonstone and go home.”

At the height of ecstasy? Was he saying they would make love?

Whatever this magic was—whatever its intent and whatever its danger—Mia wanted more. All of this had been foretold by her parents. Magnus had led Kort to find her.

She was ready to see where he led.

Gemini by Catherine Peace #Giveaway @lexcade #ASMSG

tourbutton_gemini
Species Roundup – The Aliens of Gemini

One of the best parts about writing science fiction (besides the advanced technology, the new worlds, and of course, the fashion) is creating new species. When George Lucas talked about creating Chewbacca for Star Wars, he said, “There was a dog in ‘American Graffiti’, but I didn’t use ‘Indiana” for the part because it was a night scene and I wanted a white dog. My wife was very upset that I didn’t put my own dog in the movie; so I said I’d put Indiana’s spirit in the next one. And that’s how the ‘Wookiee’ came into being.”
The spirit of my dog didn’t quite make it into Gemini (unless you count Shadi’s unconditional love, loyalty, and blatant disregard for life), but I did pull from a few other sources to create the species of the Gemini universe.
Nyx – The bad guys. They came from a combination of things, but mostly Bob the Killer Goldfish from Earthworm Jim. Without their giant titanium suits, they’re incapable of functioning away from their home planet of Lophus, and without slave labor, they’re incapable of joining the galactic economy. Also, they suck. Most often referred to as those “damned oversized blowfish” by Uri.

Vodni’du – Admittedly, I’m a little too in love with Bioware, the video game studio that brought me much joy with Mass Effect and Dragon Age. My blue skinned vodni’du are an homage to Mass Effect’s asari, but their biology is more based on seahorses. A select few of them are genderfluid, and their religion is one of the most prominent in the galaxy. However, I wanted to avoid what almost always happens in science fiction—the entire species believes the same way. The vodni have several branches of their principle religion, some agnostic, and atheists, and in between.

Vodni’du have blue skin with differing shades, black eyes, and black hair.

V’iak – One of my favorites, admittedly. I haven’t done a lot of building with v’iak culture, but they have a group of women called the huntresses, who are almost like bounty hunters, and some of them also hunt lesser species for sport. It takes years of training and practice to become one of the elites, but once you’re part of the club, you have to make every single kill. They have a reputation to uphold.
The v’iak mostly have black skin, colorless eyes, and long, brightly colored hair. The huntresses have raised tattoos denoting their rank and number of kills.

Eibronian – One of the lesser species, and one frequently hunted by the v’iak. Eibronians resemble Qunari from the Dragon Age universe. Eibronians are tall and muscular, with large horns on either side of their heads. Their blood is a useful panacea, able to treat most infections, and their horns are a source of pride for collectors. Eibronians are intelligent and resourceful, are capable builders and mechanics, and are often used as infantry in galactic disputes. However, their status as a lesser species keeps them from certain protections that the vodni’du, v’iak, humans, and other greater species enjoy.

Gurita – Gurita are known as the worriers of the galaxy. They tend to prepare for every possible outcome of every possible scenario, which makes them the ultimate doomsday preppers. Somewhat resembling octopi, gurita do have tentacles (this is NOT that kind of book, just fyi), and also have small beaks. They’re typically extremely intelligent.
Hope you enjoyed learning about my species. There are many more that I haven’t covered, so you’ll just have to read the book to learn about them!

blurb
CP_BeyondFairytales_Gemini_200x300Being one of the Embassy’s glorified treasure-seekers has its perks…
Komandan Uriah Jacobs recovers ancient artifacts in exchange for more than just decent pay; he also receives guaranteed protection from his former owners, the nyx…until an emergency landing on a too-familiar colony brings him face-to-face with his past life and something more—a surprisingly priceless treasure in the form of a human woman.

A slave to the nyx since childhood…
Shadi spends her waking hours in the forge, dreaming of rescuing her brother with the help of a man she once worshipped like a father. A crashed ship on the colony becomes her only hope to escape. But before she can steal the ship, the pilot abducts her. They may be the same species, but will he help her find her Shilah?

Their attraction is undeniable…
Fighting it seems inconsequential as they evade the nyx’s bounty hunter and uncover a conspiracy that shines unwanted light on Shadi’s past and reveals the corruption in Uri’s beloved Embassy, placing their fledgling love in danger.

As the universe systematically falls apart, will Shadi and Uri’s newfound passion be enough to keep them alive?

Sara, a hidden Hybrid disguised as a BioGen Monitor, will find an enslaved Justin being experimented on. She will help him gain his freedom and in the process will gain her own. Trust will grow between them and from that trust will blossom a love which will give them the power to escape BioGen.

Long Book Description:

The ruling hiarchy of the known world, BioGen, continues to manipulate the genetics of the human race to try and prevent the extinction of mind-kind. In their meddling to control life, BioGen combines human DNA with alien. Success is achieved and unique females are created and industrially born. The baby girls are surprising in their beauty and abilities, but BioGen, in their need to control and conquer, force the delicate females away from their caregivers. Their only goal is to hone the powerful gifts of the maturing teenagers. In the end, however, they perish one by one because of the uncaring ways of their handlers until there is only one extraordinary woman remaining.

Born part human and part Phoenix, Sara has hidden among the enemy since she was created. Disguised in the appearance of a Nul working for BioGen, she searches for the truth about her creation and the sisters she lost during childhood. During her duties she is assigned to guard and observe scientific experimentation on a man who she discovers is no other than one of the Wilder males.

Captured as a young man while searching for his brother, Justin is forced into service to be one of the highly coveted Companions. Refusing to be broken and used by the Gen female population he is tortured and then used for genetic research. Under the Headquarter’s control his very sanity and memory is almost destroyed. Ultimately BioGen will destroy him if he can’t find a way to escape back to The Wilds and his family. The fates bring him a breath-taking woman who is the key to both his freedom and hers.

Thrown together in hopeless circumstances, the fated lovers are initially enemies. However, Sara is instantly drawn to Justin and she has no choice but to free him from BioGen’s grasp. At first Justin sees her as nothing more than his way to escape but it doesn’t take long for him to see the mysterious beauty under the surface of her disguise. Together they find a way to escape from the enemy’s Headquarters.

During their run for freedom they will find the most unlikely allies in both Daman, a high class Companion, and Defiance, an underground group of escaped males who just may have their own agenda. Joining the group of criminals is a dangerous consideration, however, Justin and Sara must team up with Daman, who is now leader of Defiance, if they have any hope of reaching The Wilds. In the end there is no choice as BioGen’s assembling army begins an all out attack on Justin’s family and the Rogues.

In the search for answers and freedom, Sara and Justin’s growing trust and dedication to each other will become a flame of passion and love. They will discover the intense love they have for each other makes them stronger than all of the uncertainties and dangers in their life. Sara’s gentle caring will allow Justin to trust again and recover his memories. In return, his belief in her will allow Sara to harness her Phoenix abilities. Only the two of them have the true power to save Justin’s family and the Rogues who call The Wilds home.

In one great clash of wills at the edge of civilization a great battle will be waged between BioGen’s Nul army, the Rogues, and Defiance. In the midst of the conflict and chaos will be two incredible lovers who will do anything to save those they care for. Justin will rejoin his family and give Sara the strength to harness the fiery ability of her Phoenix side in the final showdown. In the end, only the power of love will prevail and ultimately set everyone free.

excerpt

Home.  Justin never thought to ever make it back to the place he loved, back to the people who he loved.  It was too much to hope for, and although he wanted to completely believe in what Daman was offering him, he couldn’t.  Suspicion still circled in his mind from what he had been through over the past five years.  Aggression filled him and when Daman made to walk past him in an elegant exit Justin snatched out and grabbed him by the jacket again.

In a growl he bit out,  “If you think to entrap me in any way with this I’ll escape and you’ll pay.”

In a smooth movement Daman turned and stared him down with death in his eyes and growled back,  “I realize you’ve had it rough Justin, but so have the rest of us.  If I could, I’d make a run myself but too many people are depending on me.  My choice is to stay, for now.  Use the discs, don’t use them, I don’t give a fuck.  Just remember I tried to help you out.  If you’re with the plan, I’ll be back as soon as the sun sets, but well before curfew, to pick you up.  Look for my black Puma at curb side. Eight ‘o’clock should suffice.  Now, if you would be so kind to get your hands off me.”

When Justin didn’t initially let go Daman grabbed his shirt as if to throw him off, but both men froze when a dagger flew by and imbedded in the table next to Daman’s leg.  With a groan Justin carefully let go of Daman’s jacket just as he did the same with his shirt.  Yes, the worst thing had happened to him.  Sara had revealed herself to Daman, even if it was in the act of trying to protect him.  He should have known better than to leave her alone without letting her know what was up, but he just couldn’t wake her sweet sleeping form at the time.  She had needed her rest.  Turning to face her he knew she still needed some serious sleep.

His heart plummeted when he saw her true form revealed to Daman and his pure viciousness to protect her exploded.  Even when he quickly moved to block Daman’s view of her he couldn’t help but be proud of her.  With as many injuries as she had sustained for him, and her body still healing, she was his avenging angel.  Her own protective fury emanated from her along with the heat he couldn’t identify.  Still, he had to protect her because it was obvious she still didn’t have the strength to attempt to hide her true form.

Spinning around to block Daman’s view, he couldn’t miss the man’s shocked expression of what he was seeing.  Justin knew he would be taking in Sara’s brilliant auburn hair and her mysterious aquamarine eyes, and her skin.  Such soft skin that brushed up against his when she dove around him to stand in front to be the protector.  He tried to grab her to pull her back but she slipped from his grasp with such ease.  He hated the fact that not only was her true form revealed, so were her long sensual legs since all she had on was his over-sized t-shirt.

Closing his eyes he groaned again.  By the Fates, he loved the woman but she was going to be the one to kill him just from the stress of trying to protect her.  The realization of what he had just admitted to himself left him shaky, but he didn’t have time to dwell on it.  Daman was approaching, albeit carefully, and Justin didn’t want him anywhere near Sara.  Again he tried to grab Sara to place her behind him but she refused standing her ground with her remaining dagger in hand. He wondered if she was stronger than he thought and was choosing to show her true form.  It was revealed in the next instant when she transformed to her Nul appearance, a reflex of protection he was certain.

Shining auburn hair became dark, glowing skin became pale, and eyes that glanced back at him darkened to a deep chocolate tone.  She glanced at him for just a moment with concern in her eyes before she turned back to Daman.  With a quick spin of the dagger in her hand she had the man freezing in place.  Instead of Daman taking an aggressive stance he started laughing, his deep voice echoing throughout the room.

Sara stalked closer to the Companion and Justin was right on her like a shadow.  Before she reached him Justin encircled her with his arms holding her against him.  He could literally feel the heat and energy running through her when she hissed,  “I know who you are.  You work with Defiance and you’re a Companion.  I’ve heard stories about you.  You’re dangerous, but I assure you, I’m more dangerous, as you have seen by what I really am, so don’t ever touch Justin again.”

Justin was relieved to see that Daman was taking Sara seriously but hated the fact she had revealed herself to make a point.  Still, Daman was Daman, and with a play-boy smile he countered,  “I bow to your beauty, my lady.  I’m glad to see that not all of the Hybrids were destroyed.  Yes, I see you’re shocked, but as you said, I am Defiance, so have access to things no one else has.  Including files which BioGen thinks they can keep protected with their security measures.  I wonder…have you told Justin about everything you are and what you can do?”

Fury filled Justin but he held his position holding on to Sara.  He could feel her body shaking, whether it was from adrenaline or weakness he didn’t know, but he wasn’t going to let her get into a battle with Daman for him or anything else.  She was too important to him.  Perhaps Daman picked up on that fact because he held up his hands and backed away from the pair before heading for the exit door.

Before he departed he threw over his shoulder, “Good luck, Justin.  You’re going to need it.  If you’re with the program of using the Identity and Transport Discs, I’ll see you tonight.  The moment I pull up get your ass out there or I’m gone.  I won’t be making the offer again.  And by the way, be careful with that girl.  There’s more to her than meets the eye.”

Right before the door closed Sara let out a growl and let loose with her last dagger.  End over end it flipped through the air with a speed that Justin could barely keep track of.  Daman barely made it out the door before the deadly blade imbedded in the hard wood.

Christine Murphy started her writing career at a young age even before she was putting words to paper.  Living in Image1the Midwest left her with plenty of time to read and develop her creative mind.  Her first short story was written in grade school and was in a fantasy-type style.  Later she took an online course in writing and created another story based on the adventures of a Native-American youth searching for her purpose in life and filled with lots of symbology.

Science-fiction fantasy was her main reading preference but quickly shifted to romance.  In the beginning she preferred Contemporary Romance but that didn’t last long when she discovered Christine Feehan and JR Ward.  Paranormal Romance had infected her and she read as much of it as her voracious mind could adsorb.

Eventually Christine joined the work force, and although she continued to read, she didn’t pursue her need to create her own worlds other than in her head.  Her imagination continued but reality kept her busy including a successful medical based career in the military.  Working as a clinical laboratory scientist she was stationed in several locations in the United States and in numerous areas of the world including England, Italy, Germany, Africa, and the Middle East.  Finally her career brought her to a small town outside the Tampa Bay area in Florida.  This is where she finally realized time is too short to put off those enjoyments in life especially when her husband was struck with leukemia.  He successfully recovered but it made her decide she wanted to pursue writing which seemed to be put off her whole life.

Within two years she had completed an entire series – The Sphinx Warriors Series, and started the first book of The Wild Clan Sagas.  Currently she continues to write from her Florida home while looking out her back lanai to a small pond where the wild-life gathers and the flowers bloom in exotic pinks and purples. This is her place of peace and freedom she has searched for all her life and where her husband and crazy African Gray Parrot, Raider, hang out with her.  It’s the place where her creativity runs wild while she spins tales of adventure and passion. She captures the unique characters, civilizations, conflict, passion, and love in her writing from the fantasies which still spin in her head.  She captures the strong, spirited, and powerfully attracted characters and all of their adventures and share it with others who are searching for that very thing to make their lives more exciting.

If she accomplishes nothing else in life, she hopes to share the romantically magical worlds and the lovers she sees with all of the passionate readers out there.  Her next projects are continuing to work on her Wild Clan Sagas and her Midnight Riders Series as she partners with KnightFall Publishing and CK Productions.

Talk dirty to me, scifi

In my misspent youth, I was a voracious reader and among the many genres I tried and devoured was science fiction. This was hardcore scifi where no fictional spaceship was allowed to blast off in a story, and no warp-travelling wormhole was allowed to send you hurtling across the galaxy, unless the author could explain it somehow with physics and maths.

Hard science fiction. So hard your brain melted a bit reading them.

Now? I’d rather my stories melt panties. Defiler is a part of the Preyfinder series and the only hard in this scifi are the men. It’s a dirty, depraved story world but with a plot that will make you bite your nails and scream a little as the ending rolls toward you. I’ve even thrown in lashings of fantasy because it made the story far more FUN. Fun is what I need in my stories, along with the sex. This is an erotic tale and though some of the romantic/ erotic scifi out there is light on plot, that’s not this book. If I can’t make you wonder what in all the seven realms of alien hell is about to happen in this one, I’ve not done my job.

Imagine a mash-up of Serenity or Star Wars along with some epic fantasy stirred in with a few orgies from Game of Thrones and you have Defiler.

Since I do like dubious consent in my stories, you’ll find that a part of the sexuality, but there’s never any doubt that Talia is having the time of her life. Many women have rape fantasies (one of the commonest sexual fantasies of women) and erotic reads like these are as safe, sane, and consensual a way to indulge those fantasies as anyone can get. Not exactly bodice ripper in space, but that is the general background theme in the Preyfinder stories.

Talia is no pushover, though she has a lust for big, alien men with sexual equipment to die for, she’s also a strong, brave, and smart forensic pathologist. A man tangles with her at the risk of having his spleen removed with a swish of her katana. Read Defiler and find out how Brask and Dassenze manage to dodge her sword and drag her into bed with them.

rosepagebreak60

blurbOur Earth is on the edge of destruction, our cities are pocked with missile craters, and beneath the surface the alien factory queen lurks.

Four women of power may be our saviors. The last is Talia. Gifted by earth magic with a mastery of edged weapons, she’s a katana-wielding, geek chick with a loathing of alpha men. Although mating enhances magic, she knows bonding with aliens must surely be wrong. Besides, her destined bond mate, Brask, is an Igrakk warrior of the caveman persuasion. One dominant male is bad enough. Dassenze, the alien man-god in the flesh, also desires her and no isn’t a word he appreciates.

As they near their target, Talia’s man problems become the lesser of many evils, for the factory queen awaits them with her nerve chewers and her drills. The price for being avenging, kickass heroines could be a messy death.

Warning: Dominance and submission themes, hot aliens, and violence. Mild horror too if you’re squeamish.

Available at     Amazon     iTunes     BN

excerpt

Talia approached the door, chair in hand, feeling like a lion tamer, and wedged the chair against the door knob. It worked in the movies.

“Go away! I’ll come and see you after I’m done. To talk about whatever it is you want to talk about.”

“If you’re there, on the other side, you can let me in.”

He was going to wait for her to let him in? Ho hum and yawn.

“No, I cannot. Asshole.” She said that to herself as she backed away, grinning. There was a thrill to calling Brask bad names, akin to poking a monkey with a stick. A big, slightly-annoyed monkey.

His sigh sounded exasperated. “Do you have any idea how good my hearing is? Or whatever this other sense is. I can tell when you’re aroused.”

She snorted. “Tough.”

His next move was to smash his fist through the door, sending splinters flying, then he shoved aside the chair and opened the door from the inside.

“Damn,” she muttered. “Impressive.”

Running on ceilings was impressive too but this was a whole other realm – a man who would smash down a door to get to her.

Scary as hell.

Keeping her expression defiant was difficult. She found herself cycling between a smirk and an oh-shit-what-have-I-done expression. Fear had some plusses. Excitement for one. He wouldn’t hurt her and she wasn’t going to hurt him, but her heart was pounding away like it wasn’t sure.

Now she had an annoyed Brask on her side of the door. He kicked it farther open and took a step inside as the handle hit the wall and the door swung back in a foot.

“I see you’re ready for me. Nice underwear.”

Breathless, she gathered her reply. “I wasn’t expecting guests. Maybe you should leave?”

“I only just arrived. But if you insist.” But then he stepped closer, until she had to tilt her head back farther to keep the encounter eye-to-eye. Between the width of his shoulders, general body bulk, and the way his blond spiky hair seemed ready to brush the ceiling, he was making her feel like a small female snack.

Never look away from a predator, right? On shuffling back a step, she found the coffee table pressing at her bare legs.

Insolently and probably stupidly, she angled a brow. “Leaving means going in the other direction.”

“It does?”

“Yes.”

He crowded her some more until only inches separated them and she could feel his body heat. She didn’t dare shut her eyes. She was faster than him, but that wasn’t everything. Not at all. But he didn’t lunge at her, instead he very deliberately reached out and around her, with both hands, and took a grip of the back of her hair. Then he screwed both hands in and twisted, thoroughly trapping her.

Something stopped her resisting. Probably raw unadulterated lust. She licked her lips, waiting. When he remained silent, she couldn’t resist asking a question.

“Now what are you going to do? My hairstyle?”

blurbForget the foreplay. For the truly committed, it’s all bite.

Willow has loved Devon and Case for as long as she can remember, but as lion shifters they will eventually find their mates. When she allows herself to be with her two lions after a drunken party, she fears she’s ruined a lifelong friendship and flees before morning.

Devon and Case have been inseparable since they could walk, but they can’t tell anyone that they are mates. The pride of shifters they belong to won’t accept a same-sex mating. There’s no way they’ll accept their love for Willow?

When a shocking revelation brings Willow’s world crashing down, she has no choice but to tell Devon and Case how she feels. Will they be able to accept what fate has thrown at them? Do they want to?

Available at ARe

excerptCase let go of Willow’s shoulder and poured them all another shot. He wanted to get out of here, wanted to be alone with his mate and the female he cared about more than anything else in the world. He stared at Willow, took in her long brown hair that curled at the ends, the color of her amber eyes, and her innocent expression. She was so damn pretty, but she didn’t think she was, didn’t see herself as anything more than chubby and ugly no matter how many times they told her the opposite. Willow was smart, quiet, and timid, and so unlike the other lionesses in their pride, but she was theirs, had been part of their lives for as long as they could remember.

He loved her more than just as a friend, and he’d spoken about those feelings with Devon. It hadn’t been a surprise when his mate had said the same thing. But it wasn’t smart or fair to be with her as anything more than friends. She’d find a mate one day, and if they were physical with her, a lot of emotions would get sticky in the mix. It was better if they kept things platonic even if it was hard as hell.

He watched his mate throw back the shot, took in the strong six-foot-six height of his mate, the long black hair that fell over his forehead, and the light green eyes. His mate was a gorgeous bastard, but it pained him to keep their connection from others. He wanted to shout it loud and proud, but it wasn’t safe or smart to do so, not until everyone was more accepting of two males mating. As it was he didn’t know what would happen to them, or how they would be treated if they came out now.

Case had always liked males, had always jerked off to thinking of their hard bodies, long cocks. But he loved women too, loved the soft curves, soft voices. He couldn’t lie and say he hadn’t thought about being with another male throughout his life, about how muscle against muscle would feel, but they had only been thoughts, up until he’d been seventeen and seen Devon as his mate. He just wanted to let go, be who and what he wanted to be, and not worry how it would affect the pride, or who would care. But that wasn’t reality. What he knew for damn sure was he wanted to fucking take Devon and Willow, even if she wasn’t his mate by bond, hard and fast, get lost in them, and fuck up anyone who told him it was wrong.

His thoughts were interrupted when Willow tossed back the shot. She was not acting like her reserved self right now, but she was drunk. He’d only ever seen her like this on a couple other occasions, and it always made her more outgoing, less hidden.

She leaned in close so only he could hear her say, “Case, I think maybe I had way too much to drink.” She leaned against him and he held her close, looking over her head at Devon. His mate looked worried.

“Let’s get you home, sweetheart.

“No, my parents will kill me. Can I stay at your place?” She pulled back. “My parents won’t care. They loved you too, and I know your parents are gone for the weekend.”

He smiled and pushed a stray piece of hair off her forehead. “Yeah, sweetheart. I wouldn’t want you to be alone anyway.”

He led them out of the party, Devon behind, his anger still tangible. Case wanted to comfort Devon, because even if he was enraged, someone wanted to take advantage of their Willow. Now was not the time.

excerpt“The choice is yours boy, but understand—not deciding is making a decision. Do it before I make the decision for you. Only difference is, I won’t kill one, I’ll kill them both. Father or sister. You have all the power.”Roth’s kept his tone calm and gentle. The evil coiled tightly within him warmed his soul. He fancied the boy killing his father, silently rooting for the infant to survive. He could have lots of fun with her over the coming years. The boy’s father would die either way. Roth had bound and beaten him just for fun.

“Daddy? What do I do?” Tears streamed down Dylan’s face, sobs racked his entire nine-year-old battered frame. His gaze slid from his father to his baby sister, now held by Roth. When he looked back at his dad’s bruised and bloody face, he cried harder. His dad’s eyes were swollen—nearly shut.

The gun shook uncontrollably in the boy’s small hand. “Daddy?”

Boredom shadowed Roth’s eyes, the excitement of the climax dimmed with the child’s indecisiveness. His gaze wandered out the window over the kitchen sink. In the back yard, a massive play structure stood, complete with swings, tunnels, overhead ladder, and a slide. How extravagant for just two children, one still an infant. His sister always belabored the little things. Shame she’s not present to witness this. He would’ve found this even more amusing.

The blond haired infant cradled roughly in his left arm actually cooed at him. Disgusting. If he kept this thing, he’d have to hire a nanny. Still, the thought of it growing up with half the powers he’d felt in his sister years ago made the brat worth the trouble…If she survived today. He sighed.
****
“Dylan, son, It’s okay. You’re going to be all right. Look at me. Remember how we played catch this morning? When you think of me, you’ll remember how we played ball today. Okay, son?” He didn’t know what else to say in this horrific situation. His own psychotic brother in law was forcing his son to commit the most heinous act imaginable, choose between patricide and sororicide. Roth had always been the canary in the crazy mind but even Devon hadn’t seen this coming.

“Awww, isn’t this touching?” Roth snorted, no doubt weary of his twisted game. “What a little wimp. I’m growing tired of your indecision, boy. I think I’ll just slice this little bitch’s throat.

The only barricades remaining are the ones we refuse to navigate. She hopes you’ve enjoyed this story. Shyla’s website, ShylaWolff.com, will be updated as Dylan’s journey continues.

blurbSugar’s sweet, but sex tastes better…

Kit Cheever is more than eager to welcome her new co-worker, Sidney Campbell, to Tish’s Riches, the best chocolate shop in Virginia. While the long days on the job hardly exhaust them for long nights of play, Sidney hopes for more in their relationship than candy-coated orgasms. Is dinner out too much to ask?

Kit would oblige, but she likes her privacy. The people of Dareville don’t need to know she and Sidney are anything more than co-workers. Why be “out” when it’s so much hotter and safer indoors?

Kit won’t even hold her hand in public, which upsets Sidney. She’s not asking Kit to march in a parade, just to acknowledge her feelings to the people she loves. What will it take to get Kit out of the closet and into Sidney’s heart?

Available at ARe

excerpt“Nice getup,” Kit said, and twirled her finger downward to guide Sidney to move away. “I have to see the shoes.”

Sidney laughed and offered the full model strut. She whirled around and sashayed along the bar a few steps, wiggling her slim hips, then returned with an exaggerated en pointe of one high-top sneaker, which was actually designed to look like a red Uno playing card.

“How come they don’t match?” Couldn’t be too difficult to find checkerboard-patterned shoes.

“The shoes that go with this outfit are worn out. I haven’t had time to make another pair.”

“Really? You don’t buy these?” Kit asked. Baking, sewing…this girl was a one-woman craft bazaar.

Sidney smiled. “What can I say? I’m good with a glue gun and a pastry bag, so long as I don’t get them mixed up.”

“Cool. Uh, what brings you here?” Did Sidney know this was a lesbian bar? The décor didn’t outright advertise it—no rainbow bunting or pink triangle beer coasters. Yeah, framed posters of semi-nude women hung on the walls, but Kit saw those at other places.

“I heard this was the best place to meet women in town. Rather, close to town. We’re kind of in between Dareville and the beach, huh?”

“Yeah. We were thinking of calling it West Vagina.”

Sidney snorted up a sip of her drink. “You have to warn me when you make a joke like that.” She waved over the bartender for some napkins.

She attracted many an appreciative stare from other patrons, too, leaving Kit to think of the right words to get Sidney to a more secluded place to chat.

Luckily, though, Sidney shared her idea. “This music is so damn loud, how do you stand it?” she called out. “Wanna sit out on the patio?”

Kit nodded, and a minute later they found two Adirondack chairs on the concrete, screened-in patio that abutted the alleyway behind the club. Kit had heard, when the building had housed an Italian restaurant, this area served as a smoking lounge for the wait staff. Nobody lit up here now due to new laws, but the folks at the Den tried their best to make the patio look pretty. Fake palms trees wrapped with white twinkle lights adorned each corner, and standing space heaters kept the area comfortable. Though no door separated them from the club interior, Kit noticed that the distance did mute the music’s volume to a low, steady boom.

“What were you drinking? Refill’s on me,” Sidney offered, and flagged down a server making the round to others lounging on the patio.

“You don’t have to do that, I’m good.”

Sidney smirked away Kit’s reluctance. “Please. I’m a working woman now. I can afford it,” she said with a wink. Kit couldn’t argue with that.

“I usually get the Key Lime Pie martini. It’s their signature drink.”

“Ooh, that sounds good. Two, please,” Sidney told the waitress, and Kit watched the silent exchange between them that followed. Well, she counted the seconds the waitress lingered, shuffling backward with her eye on Sidney, before finally retreating to the bar to place their orders. Petite blonde with Eighties fetish proved tonight’s favorite flavor, and Sidney no doubt tempted many an appetite. Kit placed a hand on her growling stomach.

Sidney crossed her legs and turned in her seat, squeezing her arms close to her body as though to preserve warmth. “How does a key lime drink become the specialty of the house here? Rather unusual choice.”

“Not really. The person who owns the Den is from South Florida. She used to run a lesbian bar down there. I guess they’re a dime a dozen, so she came up here to find a captive audience. Before that she taught English at some college, so that’s where the Woolf came from.” Kit crooked her head toward a poster of Virginia Woolf’s profile on the brick wall. Several artistic renditions of the famed author decorated the establishment, in places where one didn’t find the semi-nudes.

“I would love to have had a place like this in Wyoming to go to.”

“Yeah?” Images of gorgeous women in tight blue jeans, bouncing in saddles as the horses they straddled galloped in some wide prairie, filled Kit’s mind. One rarely ran into country girls in town, and suddenly Kit pictured Sidney in a Stetson the color of her geektastic shoes.

Sidney in a cowgirl hat, stripped down to a Rubik-colored thong, straddled over her hips and bucking with one hand in the air… yee-haw.

blurbHe’d walk through fire for the doctor who once broke his heart.

Six months after having his heart broken, Australian firefighter Flynn Boomer is ready to live again. As part of a firefighter exchange program, he finds himself in New York. The last person he expects to see on his first day with Ladder Co. 42 is the man whom Flynn came out for: Dr. David Ennis—who left him without a word after their first public kiss.

Flynn makes David feel more alive, more real than he’s ever felt before. But can David deal with the rest of the world knowing? Determined to deny Flynn’s existence, David fights his own feelings. But no matter how terrified he is at the thought of his secret being discovered, he can’t stay away from the Australian.

Flynn can no more deny David than he can deny breath, but the thought of living a lie with him tears him apart. Love is powerful, but will it be enough?

Available at ARe

excerpt“Welcome to New York.” Warm, calloused fingers engulfed Flynn’s freezing hand, followed by an enthusiastic pumping. “I’m Chief Tanner May. Sorry the weather’s not treating you well.”

“G’day, Chief.” Flynn returned his grin, even as what felt like a million shards of ice lashed at his face and hair. “No worries on the weather, although I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking of the beach back home right now.”

“Ah, that’s right.” Tanner laughed, seemingly oblivious to the crypt-like air and wind assaulting them. But then, Flynn thought, a New Yorker wouldn’t be fazed by such weather. In the same way Flynn wouldn’t think twice about heading outside back home on a day even Satan would consider too hot. “It’s summer in Australia, isn’t it.”

“It is, sir.” Flynn suppressed a shiver. Well, tried to. He failed.

Tanner laughed again. “I saw that. C’mon, let’s get you inside so you can meet the rest of Ladder Co. 42. And no calling me sir, got it? It’s Tanner or Chief.”

Flynn grinned, falling into stride beside the massive man. “Got it, Chief. Is it always this cold?”

Tanner cocked him an eyebrow, a jovial smirk dancing beneath his moustache. “You’ve arrived just in time for a history-making cold snap, Boomer.”

Flynn’s laughed. “That’d be right.”

Tanner chuckled. “Think my boy got the better end of this here exchange program. You get to freeze your ass off while he gets to soak up the summer on the beach. Y’know, I don’t think Bromwich’s ever seen a beach. We may not get him back.” He slapped a hand on Flynn’s shoulder. “What are your thoughts on staying permanently?”

Before Flynn could answer, they crossed the threshold of the door leading into the stationhouse and the cold vanished. Replaced by a heat that had nothing to do with the windows and walls keeping the New York winter at bay, and everything to do with the man currently taking the blood pressure of a firefighter almost the same size as Tanner.

Flynn’s mouth went dry.

His chest constricted.

His gut clenched. So did his jaw.

His balls—a few heartbeats ago shriveled to the size of walnuts thanks to the icy wind—throbbed with a memory Flynn had worked fucking hard to erase.

Jesus, what the fuck was David Ennis doing here?

“Guys.” Tanner’s booming voice echoed around the stationhouse like a canon, making Flynn jump. “This is the Aussie taking Bromwich’s place. Here to teach us how they do things Down Under while our boy shows them how it’s really done.” He laughed, the sound far from mean.

Flynn took in all the hellos and welcoming nods from the men who were about to become his colleagues for the next twelve weeks, men whose lives were in his hands as much as his life was in theirs.

Took them all in, tried to memorize the names thrown at him with casual ease by Tanner. Tried to appear like they were the sole focus of his attention.

He could only hope he was better at the illusion than he’d been at suppressing his earlier shiver out on the footpath.

Because what he was really doing was fighting the need to stride over to the man with the honey-auburn hair, blue eyes and impossibly square jaw and kiss him senseless.

Kael’s curious, but not unduly so, until he and the stud do a scene. Then he understands the commotion. After his scene with Kael, Liam finds himself fixating on the sub and willing to break his one-time only rule. But will it lead to heartache or happiness?

excerpt

“You want some water, honey?” his best friend asked, coming to lean against the bench Kael had been bent over.

“Thanks, Ben.” Kael stretched, showing himself off to his best advantage under the lights. “I love the stage you guys built. So cute.”

“We try. I know we’re an underground group, but we try to make it nice.” Ben offered him the sealed bottle of water. “You looking for something more tonight?”

“Sure. I mean, I don’t want to offend… uh…”

Ben brought their hands together. “The newby?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Don’t worry about it. He’s riding a high from topping you. And he’s going to be snapped up by the twinks here tonight. He’s just what they’re looking for.”

“Rock on.” Kael leaned against his best friend for a second. “So, is the new guy here? He’s got everyone’s panties in a knot.”

“You mean Master L? I don’t think he’s new. He only comes in once every month or so. Well, he used to. He’s been here more often lately.” Ben chuckled. “He’s gone through quite a few boys. Doesn’t do repeats, from what I can see. He is a dream, though.”

“Yeah? Roger let you play with him?” Kael knew the answer to that. Roger didn’t share. Ben was his and happy for it. It was fun to tease, though.

“I never even asked!” Ben rolled his eyes. “Man, I fell for that one, didn’t I? You want me to find out if Master L is here tonight?”

“You totally did. It’s cool. I’ll wander. If I’m supposed to find him, he’ll find me, right?”

“God, you’re so Zen, it’s disgusting.” Ben laughed and rubbed noses with him. “You’ll know him when you see him. His eyes are like lasers.”

“Oooh. Sexy!” He smooched Ben playfully. “Breakfast tomorrow, yes? Before the rally?”

“Master Roger and I will be there.” Ben squeezed his hand and headed off, no doubt to make sure the next couple on the little stage had everything they needed. Ben was so handy.

Kael wandered from the stage area to the rooms in the back, checking out who was there. He wasn’t really looking for Master L. At least that’s what he told himself. He was just looking for a good time.

Something in him tightened when he caught sight of a big man in the corner. The guy had a commanding presence, for all you could only half see him in the dark. Yummy. He’d take six.

Kael headed slowly that way, threading through the crowd. When crystal blue eyes found him, he almost stopped, feeling pinned in place. Mmm. The new-to-him Dom.

He let himself ease over, stand close enough to see. This guy was a stunner, tall and boasting some great muscles. He had short blond hair that was styled into a pseudo mohawk that was all the rage right now. And those eyes were indeed blue, the Dom staring at him.

“Good evening, Sir.” Kael offered a smile.
