blurbCopilot of the Blood Hunter, Daisy is a newly-turned vampire, and she’s hungry. Really hungry and it’s interfering with her plans for revenge. Part human, part cyborg, and with a poison coursing through his system, Fergal’s running out of time to find the scientist who has the cure. Unfortunately for him, the misfit crew of the Blood Hunter put a serious kink in his plans. And if the poison doesn’t kill him, the hot little vamp he can’t resist might do the honors herself…

blurbI’ve always felt like an average girl … except for my strange relationship with death. You could say I like to court it. Whether I’m soaring through the air as a flyer for Specter University’s cheer squad, or speeding down the steepest mountain with only grace and balance keeping me from an icy end, I’ve always needed to feel a rush. But now Death is courting me―in more ways than one. First, there’s Rishi, a rogue death deity who has a penchant for annoying me nearly to my grave and whose intense gaze has the power to see right through me. Then there’s Hades, who I’d rather had stayed just a myth. Now that he knows I exist, he’s not going to leave me alone until I meet the same end as my mother.

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention her? I spent my whole life thinking she had died when I was a baby, but now I’ve found out she’s much more than dead. Fifty years ago, Hades banished my mother from the underworld and took away her ability to cross over souls―souls that have wandered lost through the world ever since. Now she wants me to clean up the mess.

You may have heard of her before…

They call her the Grim Reaper.

excerptPresent

THE ROLLING GREEN of her eyes was dimming fast, losing color and life to the quick click of time that beat out her days and nights, a perpetual circle that was now fading to a close. Light brown hair that had been recently styled into looping curls was limp against the black pillowcase―a metaphor for her wilted spirit, I mused, thinking offhandedly how proud my English professor would be at my thoughtful use of language.
I sighed. I didn’t want to be here.
When her eyes met mine, I knew she saw me for who I really was—what I really was. She reached out an eager hand to take mine. I didn’t want anything to do with it. But it wasn’t because her fingers were slick with blood, deep crimson dripping down her arm and fingernails from where she’d so precisely placed a razor blade to her vein and dug deep, thinking she’d be free of her pain. It was because her face reflected back to me all the times I’d felt I’d been given a shitty deal. Current situation: case in point.
“Hi,” she whispered, her once pink lips fading with every pump of her life, which was idly dripping away from her to the plush white carpet below. I could smell the newness of it, the fresh aroma of a recently laid floor. That’s going to be a bitch to get clean.
I looked around her bedroom, at the dance trophies and pictures of smiling friends, and wondered why. Why me? “Blake …” Hearing my mother’s warning tone, I looked over at her where she stood in the shadows, overseeing my tutelage.
“Why can’t we just call an ambulance? It’s not too late. They could save her,” I whispered fiercely, staring at the girl’s hand stretched out to me as if I were her savior and not her end. “We should save—”
“It’s not for us to decide, you know that. We are only here to bring souls over, not save their mortal lives. Take her, she wants to go.”
“And will she still feel the same when she’s looking down at her body?” I asked, not even bothering to check my mother’s expression when she didn’t answer. Suicide wasn’t a peaceful death. It was pain―that much I knew.
I choked back the tears that wanted to rise in my eyes for this girl, for me … I turned to her once more and leaned down, brushing a strand of her hair from her graying face. “What’s your name?”
Barely blinking, her pale eyes darted to me. “Carly,” she said, choking around her words.
“Just hold my hand and I’ll help you cross,” I said softly, forcing myself to meet her gaze so that someone would witness her ending as they had her beginning.
She smiled slowly, and I saw that in life she had been pretty. When she’d believed. When she’d had hope.
“The light?” Her eyes widened, glittering green for a brief moment in their otherwise colorless depths at the prospect of going somewhere beautiful after this life had been so cold.
I nodded, although I didn’t really know where she would go. I was only in training, but I hoped it was someplace good, where her tormented soul could rest.
She had small, feminine hands, I thought, as she laced her slippery fingers around my longer warm ones. She didn’t last long, her pulse giving one last flutter before sputtering out.
The room was suffused with the silence left behind in the absence of such a simple thing. The thundering lack of a person’s heartbeat had never seemed quite so loud. As life departed Carly’s mortal coil, her soul lifted from the body, but unlike some souls I’d seen that were light and buoyant, at peace with the next step in their existence, hers was outlined in darkness, and it rippled, suspended in space like a special effect in a bad horror film. Her gaze turned from her body to me, sorrow coming to settle on the slope of her bowed shoulders and in the recesses of her eyes. Regret was a fickle creature. It always came too late.

excerpt“The choice is yours boy, but understand—not deciding is making a decision. Do it before I make the decision for you. Only difference is, I won’t kill one, I’ll kill them both. Father or sister. You have all the power.”Roth’s kept his tone calm and gentle. The evil coiled tightly within him warmed his soul. He fancied the boy killing his father, silently rooting for the infant to survive. He could have lots of fun with her over the coming years. The boy’s father would die either way. Roth had bound and beaten him just for fun.

“Daddy? What do I do?” Tears streamed down Dylan’s face, sobs racked his entire nine-year-old battered frame. His gaze slid from his father to his baby sister, now held by Roth. When he looked back at his dad’s bruised and bloody face, he cried harder. His dad’s eyes were swollen—nearly shut.

The gun shook uncontrollably in the boy’s small hand. “Daddy?”

Boredom shadowed Roth’s eyes, the excitement of the climax dimmed with the child’s indecisiveness. His gaze wandered out the window over the kitchen sink. In the back yard, a massive play structure stood, complete with swings, tunnels, overhead ladder, and a slide. How extravagant for just two children, one still an infant. His sister always belabored the little things. Shame she’s not present to witness this. He would’ve found this even more amusing.

The blond haired infant cradled roughly in his left arm actually cooed at him. Disgusting. If he kept this thing, he’d have to hire a nanny. Still, the thought of it growing up with half the powers he’d felt in his sister years ago made the brat worth the trouble…If she survived today. He sighed.
****
“Dylan, son, It’s okay. You’re going to be all right. Look at me. Remember how we played catch this morning? When you think of me, you’ll remember how we played ball today. Okay, son?” He didn’t know what else to say in this horrific situation. His own psychotic brother in law was forcing his son to commit the most heinous act imaginable, choose between patricide and sororicide. Roth had always been the canary in the crazy mind but even Devon hadn’t seen this coming.

“Awww, isn’t this touching?” Roth snorted, no doubt weary of his twisted game. “What a little wimp. I’m growing tired of your indecision, boy. I think I’ll just slice this little bitch’s throat.

authorbioOf the many lessons life seems intent on throwing her way; the most important one Shyla’s learned is to take the time to enjoy family and friends. The flux and flow of changes aren’t something to fight, but adapt to with the best of your ability. One day’s heartbreak is often followed by another day’s triumph. The only barricades remaining are the ones we refuse to navigate. She hopes you’ve enjoyed this story. Shyla’s website, ShylaWolff.com, will be updated as Dylan’s journey continues.

blurbWhen the rules force you to deny whom you love, it’s time to break them.

Jonah is sick and tired of hiding his lovers, Olivia and Hank, from his wolf pack. But being second in command to the Alpha means he has to follow them, right? His pack would reject him if they knew his lovers were a jaguar and a coyote…a man and a woman.

When danger threatens Liv and Hank, Jonah comes out to his Alpha. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to bring his two families together, and keep everyone safe.

Available on ARe

“I can’t spare you tonight, Jonah,” Boothe said. “We have a pack meeting tonight, and there’s unrest about the territory being invaded by those fucking coyote hybrids.”

Jonah stopped on his way out the door, his shoulders pulling up around his ears. “I told you I was out of pocket this weekend, Boss.”

“You’re my second. I need you there. Those damned coyotes are skulking around, stealing from the homes around the perimeter.”

He gritted his teeth, clenching his hand around his jacket, which he hadn’t even had time to put on before the pack Alpha had caught up with him. The urge to whine hit hard, and he stuffed it back down in his chest. He was no cub, begging for scraps.

“Sure. Okay. I’ll text my buddies and be there in a few minutes, yeah?” He hated the idea of disappointing his “buddies.” Again.

“It won’t take long. A couple of hours, tops. Tell them to keep their panties on.”

If Boothe only knew.

Boothe didn’t know, though, and Jonah intended to keep it that way. How could he possibly explain Olivia and Hank to his pack?

There was a text waiting for him when he opened his phone. She’s dancing at 11. Headlining. Meet us there?

Will try my best. Eleven he might be able to do. Drinks at eight had been the plan, and God knew he wouldn’t make that.

Cool. Ready for our weekend. So ready.

Me too. Soon. He would get his time in with Hank and Olivia if it killed him. Which it might.

Jonah sighed when Boothe bellowed his name.

This was bullshit. Utter fucking bullshit. He thought Boothe pulled these emergency meetings just to test him. His loyalty to the pack. The easy answer would be to choose a female, fuck her, and get her heavy with pups. Protect, procreate, and pretend to be happy as shit.

Problem was, he wasn’t sure he could lie so deeply.

Not with Hank and Liv waiting for him, his lovers made of pure sex, pure need.

The thought made him pant, made his cock try to rise. No. No hard-on. Meeting. Wolf politics.

Pack rules. Hierarchy. Position.

Fuck, he got tired of that shit. He was never gonna be the one to take over the pack. Not with his… boy and girl on the side.

Liv and Hank—they’d been together since they were teenagers, had been this wild, fierce pair who had seduced him without even trying. Once they’d drawn him in, he hadn’t been able to let go.

He was ashamed that he didn’t really even want to try. They made him happy, so much more than when he was with the pack. Oh, he loved his Alpha, his friends, but they would turn on him if they knew what he was.

He turned the sound off on his phone, then headed into the meeting. Hopefully he’d get to see Liv dance. He’d walk out early if he had to.

Someone had to be there to assure everyone remembered, burlesque, not stripper. No touching. Hank could tear up anyone who tried to get their girl, but his smaller stature made people more willing to start shit. Jonah’s brute strength drove them away.

Not that Ms. Olivia couldn’t defend herself. That woman would kick a man’s ass and make him love it.

She’d done it more than once to Jonah.

Hell, she’d fucked Hank so hard he screamed.

Jonah grinned, thinking about that night, and his fellow enforcer Cory clapped him on the back. “Come on, man. Quit grinning like a fool.”

“Why? Oh, yeah. I get it. That’s your job, right? The fool part.”

“Ha ha. You suck. Come on.” Cory dragged him into the meeting, and he groaned when he saw Alan Markman and Henry Law in there. Long night, ho.

Maybe if he stood next to the door…

“Let’s get this show on the road!” Alan shouted, and Boothe beckoned to Jonah. No such luck.

Damn it.

Surely they’d be done by ten.

He might even make it if it was over at ten-thirty.

Mojocastle Press      Amazon       BN     ARe     Kobo

excerpt

Lightning and thunder danced through the sky in a symmetrical glow, roaring through the cliffs. Gararic hurried up narrow winding paths of loose shale. It would take him a morning’s time in good weather to get up the path to the Perch. With the storm riding the edge of the sky, he needed to be there sooner and by the looks of the storm clouds, their darkening, heavy weight would not hold for long.

As lightning continued to arc across the sky, illuminating his way in intervals, each step grew more precarious as the small stones beneath his feet crumbled and the incline grew steeper. Halfway up the rocky path, the heavens opened up, unleashing the storm in all its fury, pelting Gararic with sleet and rain and soaking through his garments within moments.

Thor’s Hammer! He quickened his pace, all the while keeping the opening to the cave in sight. In a flash of light bright enough to warm the heavens, a shadow appeared in the opening of the cave.

He paused to watch the light dance around the mountain, giving him an excellent view of the cave’s opening. Staring in disbelief, he cursed Dianaria freely. “Witch! I swear by Odin’s blood, if you have brought this storm to torment me, I will kill you with my bare hands.” His roar echoed off the mountain.

Is that not your wish?

Startled, Gararic turned on the trail, certain he would find her on the path beside him. But the path he climbed was empty. No one followed up the winding rocky pathway. No one could be seen in the valley below.

He reached for the hilt of his sword, certain the devil’s army was on his trail. When he looked back to the opening of the cave, it too was empty. He stood silent on the path; the icy rain sluiced down upon him, staring at the empty opening of the cave in disbelief.

“What do you know of what I wish, Witch?”

The wind silently whispered her seductive reply. Come and tell me, Gararic, Leader of the Chenia River Clan. Leader of the Wolf People of Elnorn. There are many things to know this night.

Chills of desire flowed over Gararic; her soft words danced over his body. “I’ll not barter with a dead woman!” He tightened his grip on his sword, angered at his body’s response to her.

Are you so sure? Your father was not so quick to turn me away. Her voice was sultry as a moonlit night.

Gararic cursed under his breath. An image of her in all her naked beauty, alone in the creek with winter surrounding her, instantly filled his mind. Cursing himself for a fool, he tried to let his anger rule him and turned his thoughts to his father’s death. He tried to let his rage turn to molten lava and spread through his veins, knowing it was the one thing that would keep her from affecting him.

She had killed his father. She sought to kill his people. Yet even now, she wished to barter with him for his soul. If he wished to be the victor of this battle, he could not let his baser needs affect him. She would use her womanly wiles against him if she could. And that he could not allow if he wished to live.

Amazed at her audacity, he vowed he would defeat her. He would see who was more cunning; the Witch, or the warrior. Aye, he would play her game. But it was a game that he was certain she would never win.

Bounding up the path, his anger fueling his every step, Gararic hastily made his way up the remaining length of the mountain through the snow, ice, and rain. By the time he finally reached the entrance, there was no sign of Dianaria, the cave appearing as dark as his mood.

“Too afraid to face me, I see?” He wiped the rain from his face and wrung it from the length of his sable hair.

The back of the cave burst into a brilliant red flame. Gararic jumped back, drawing his sword before him. The fire died down to a single flame. He was able to see the shadow of a woman reflected on the wall of the cave. Next to the fire stood the Witch, in all her dark glory.

At first he was unsure if she was real or another image, this time from a waking dream. His eyes narrowed, taking in the voluptuous figure before him. With her back to him, besides her lush curves, he could see the rich fall of her waist-length black hair.

She wore no cloak, and through the length and thickness of her hair he could see the glorious stretch of her legs, encased in boots to her knees. He recalled the visions from his dreams, and wondered absently if she ever wore clothes. Her feminine laughter startled him from his reverie.

“Do you intend to stand in the cold all night, warrior?” Her voice was soft and sweet as a gently flowing brook.

Hello and Welcome to my blog.

Hi Houston! Thanks for having me over for a visit.

First, why don’t you tell us a little bit about this book? Something that’s not in the blurb.

Diamond Moon is the twelfth book released in a multi-author series. The series is set in The Black Hills of South Dakota. Much of the action happens in or around the small shifter town of Los Lobos. The Tao pack owns the area—the pack itself is fractured but on the mend, after the death of its crazed and cruel Alpha.

In my story, Dominant Wolf Ross Luparell returns to the pack to settle in the area and help build homes for homeless pack members. To his surprise and delight, he also finds his mate.

What adversities did you face as an aspiring author?

I’d say it’s the same challenge pre and post publication: it’s important to keep writing while one attends to the other aspects of the business, such as promotion, conferences, queries, submissions, etc.

What do you believe is your best marketing tool to sell your books?

The writing.  Our words sell our books.

What do you think is the biggest misconception that readers have about authors in general?

It’s important to understand that putting out a book is a team effort (writer, publisher, editor, designer, publicist, etc.).

How much research do you put into your books before writing them?

Depends on the topic.  I often research while I’m writing and can sometimes fall into what I fondly call “research rabbit holes.” For example, for Diamond Moon, I spent a fair amount of time watching nature videos on the behavior of wolves and reading studies on them as well. Fascinating stuff!

Why did you choose this genre to write?

I write in the genre(s) I love to read.

What makes all your long hours of writing worth it?

I love immersing myself in the worlds I create and getting to know my characters.

If you can say one thing to your readers, what would that be?

Thank you, dear readers, for taking the time to read our work! 🙂

Sinfully Fun

If you were granted 3 wishes what would they be? Immortality, and super powers, especially flying and super strength.

What’s your guilty pleasure?  Poco Dolce dark chocolate.

Do you have any hidden talents? 😉 I play the piano.

Would you rather….

Read a paperback or on an ereader? E-reader

Drink champagne or beer? Champagne

Heels or flats?  Both

Facebook or Twitter? Twitter

Go to the beach or go to a winter mountain retreat?  Beach

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

This was fun, Houston!  Thanks again, for the chat!

excerpt

He reached out with his Wolf senses. The feedback froze his fingers on the doorknob. Female. Damn, she smelled good. Human. Wolf. Wait…both? The copper tang of blood hit his nose. And injured.

He flung open the door. His abrupt move caught his visitor off guard, one small, white fist raised to knock. The woman startled and fell forward. Catching her, he pulled her inside, kicking the door shut with his foot.

She sagged against him, a shivering bundle of wet woman. Underneath the dampness, her scent drop-kicked his gut. Apples and cinnamon. Roses and honey. His body perked up, taking extreme notice. He fought the growl of possession threatening to tear out of his throat. Holy hell, had his potential mate just walked into his home in the middle of a storm?

The scent of her blood jump-started his brain into action. He lowered her gently to the floor. “Jesus. You okay?”

His instincts urged him to check her for wounds, but he was a stranger and didn’t want to spook her. But goddamn, he wanted to touch her. Peel off her wet clothes. See all of her. With a jacket covering her torso, tight jeans hiding her legs, and her ball cap pulled low on her face, all he’d seen so far was her quivering pale chin, full red lips, and those delicate, trembling hands.

“S-s-sorry, d-dripping all ov-v-ver your f-f-floor,” she said, teeth chattering. Her snow white fingers curled on the hardwood, arms trembling with her effort to keep herself upright. Blood streaked the wood. A line of liquid crimson slid down her jaw and dripped from her chin onto her jacket.

To hell with propriety. “You’re injured. Let me help you.” He pulled off her cap and damn near swallowed his tongue.

Big green eyes blinked up at him from a face so pale it made him think of moonlight. Drenched, short black hair lay plastered to her head, the ends framing features reminiscent of the fairies his sister loved to draw for the hidden-object games she designed. Ethereal beauty. My beauty. He stroked a knuckle down her cheek then ran his thumb over her soft, full lower lip.

She flinched and batted his hand away, falling to her side in the process.

Ross snapped back to reality with a healthy hit of guilt. “Shit. Sorry.”

His gaze shot to her forehead where a two-inch cut sent blood trailing over her prominent cheekbone with its silky-smooth skin he’d so enjoyed caressing—

Shit. He gave himself a mental ass kicking for scaring her. “I’m Ross. You’re safe here. Promise.”
